Sanni Lehtinen appointed as Nyyti ry’s Senior Specialist. She started in her role on April 28, 2025. The job title is a new one at Nyyti ry. Below, get to know Sanni and her thoughts on her new position.

Who Are You and What Will You Be Doing at Nyyti ry?

I’m Sanni Lehtinen, a professional in organisational work, a multitalented influencer, and at heart, an eternal student. I started in the role of Senior Specialist in the beginning of May Day week. In this role, I will be working on advocacy related to promoting student mental health, as well as being responsible for the development and internal coordination of mental health work at Nyyti ry.

What Excites You Most About Your New Job?

In this role, I’m especially inspired by the meaningful goal: promoting student mental health. It’s exciting to return to advocacy work and, at the same time, contribute to organisational development. The diverse nature of the role offers many opportunities to draw from my previous experience, but also to face new challenges and gain insightful learning experiences!

What Are Your Expectations for This New Job?

I look forward to collaboration. I believe that nothing great can be achieved alone, and promoting student mental health is no exception. It’s a great joy to become part of Nyyti’s work community, but I’m also eager to collaborate with student organisations, the higher education sector, and the broader NGO field — not to forget policymakers and political influencers.

What Are You Bringing to Nyyti ry?

I bring a comprehensive understanding of the Finnish higher education sector and the key issues in student life. I grew into an influencer and leader in the student union movement and later worked as the executive director of a university of applied sciences student union. So, Nyyti’s target group is very familiar to me — as is the organisation itself, since I served as Nyyti’s chairperson in 2020–2021. It’s nice to return, this time as an employee! I bring to the work community a spirited and cheerful personality with an empathetic outlook on life, a strong work ethic, and a constant desire to learn new things.

What Do You Do in Your Free Time?

I enjoy spending time on dance floors and karaoke stages, wandering through libraries and flea markets, or taking dips from dockside washing platforms. Due to various life choices, I also find myself surprisingly often in meetings during my free time. On holidays, I hop on a train heading either to the northern wilderness or Central European cities — although more often than not, the tracks lead me to Tampere. Most of all, it’s important to me to spend time with the people in my life, whether that involves everyday moments or celebrations.

What Message Do You Want to Send to Nyyti ry’s followers?

Every student has the right to mental health. Making this right a reality requires changes in societal structures. If you want to help make that change, get in touch!
