Creative Workshop:  Can you see us, can you hear us? – LGBTQIA+ -students in Higher Education 

Thoughtless joke at the cafeteria table, research enforcing the gender binary in study materials. A tender arm on your shoulder, pins and patches of what we can recognize each other. To be just as painfully and wonderfully visible and invisible. What is it like to be a Queer student in Higher Education? How does it look, feel, sound? 

In this workshop you can address your queer experiences in the creative means you prefer. Will your experience turn into a comic, a drawing, a poem or maybe an aquarelle painting? Facilitated warm-up excersises are related to creative writing and painting or drawing. The workshop will be held in both Finnish and English, depending on the needs of the participants.

In QueerMieli –project's creative workshop you can express your own story about Queer student life in a safer and welcoming atmosphere. Your story can be big or small, detailed, abstract… Each and every story is an important opening to the discussion of equity, inclusivity and well-being effects of minority stress in Higher Education. 

The workshop is a part of QueerMieli project's autumn campaign which collects the stories of LGBTQIA+ -higher education students for the project's educational and advocacy work. The purpose of the campaign's stories is to make visible the experiences of LGBTQIA+ -students and to further the understanding of minority stress and it's effects on well-being. You can share your artwork to be a part of QueerMieli –project's advocacy and educational work or keep your story in your own desk's drawer.  

In the workshop, we follow the Nyyti Safer space principles.  

To whom: LGBTQIA+ -higher education students 

When: Friday 7.11.25 5 to 7 PM, workshop is 2 hours including independent work.

• Your own art supplies 
• Your curiosity, own way of being and expression
