The corona pandemic with its limitations has tested students’ resilience and community spirit. The mental strain experienced by students was at an alarming level even before the pandemic, so it is now more important to strengthen students ’mental health and ability to study.
The World’s Happiest Students campaign promotes the wellbeing of students. The campaign was launched by the Student Union of the University of Vaasa (VYY) and the Student Union of Åbo Akademi University (ÅAS) in collaboration with other student unions and associations in Vaasa. The campaign involves Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulun opiskelijakunta (VAMOK), Studentföreningen vid Svenska Handelshögskolan i Vasa r.f. (SSHV), Studerandekåren Novium, Opiskelijan Vaasa – Vasa Studerande (OVVS) and Justus ry. The City of Vaasa is also a part of the campaign and the campaign is supported by it.
Together around the world -wellbeing event starts the campaign
The Together Around the World event encourages students to move around by walking or running. The goal of the exercise challenge is to reach 40,000 km, which is equivalent to the circumference of the earth. The World’s Happiest Students campaign is based on the idea of touring the globe and the fact that Finland the happiest country in the world. The exercise challenge will be implemented from 3 to 30 May 2021. The aim of the exercise challenge is to donate to Nyyti ry one euro for every kilometer moved.
The challenge has been accepted with joy and gratitude in Nyyti.
Supporting students’ coping and mental health is more topical than before. With the donations we receive, we are able to implement various low-threshold support activities for students. By operating at a low threshold, we reach a significant number of students and strengthen students’ coping in every day life and studies.
says Minna Savolainen, Executive Director of Nyyti ry, who is pleased with the challenge.
