Instructions for volunteers

As a Nyyti volunteer, you take part in improving the mental well-being of students. At its core, our volunteer work aims to fortify mental resources and compassion in others and in ourselves. By participating in our work, you get to promote our cause and message: that students’ mental well-being is important and impactful.

You can contribute to our work when you’ve got the time for it. However, we hope and expect that you’ll keep your promises. If it turns out that you can’t complete a volunteer assignment you were given, please let us know as soon as possible. We can write you a certificate/reference of your time as a volunteer if you want one. Joining up for volunteer work does not make you part of a contractual employment relationship, and you will not get paid for volunteer work.

As a volunteer, you get:

  • tools and resources to improve mental well-being in others and in yourself,
  • an invitation to Nyyti volunteers’ Facebook group (you can join even before completing your first task as a volunteer),
  • invitations to volunteer training, meetings, and recreational events, organized a few times each year,
  • a certificate/reference of your time as a volunteer if you want one.

Most of our volunteer work does not include specific training or orientation. We provide a brief orientation for our chat’s peer counselors, and it can be arranged over a remote connection. Please note that you can receive guidance and advice for your volunteer work from Nyyti’s employees. You can also participate in our volunteer activities as part of your studies, for a study project or your thesis. Learn more about our thesis cooperation (in Finnish).

If you are given access to any login details, passwords, or other confidential information, be sure to only use them for your Nyyti volunteer duties and keep the information safe from everyone else.

When you take part in our projects as a volunteer, we really hope that you will familiarize yourself with Nyyti’s mission and values. Learn more about them here.

The names, email addresses, and completed assignments of our volunteers will be stored in our system, for example, to send feedback- and evaluation surveys to those who take part in our activities. It’s also much less time-consuming to write people’s work certificates when we have a record of names and assignments. Learn more about our data processing in our register and privacy policy statement.

Nyyti’s volunteers are insured for personal injuries while doing volunteer work.
