To ensure that everyone feels comfortable and safe sharing their perspectives, we follow the principles of a safer space in all Nyyti’s activities and events. These principles aim to create practices that allow each participant to contribute to equality and safety.
These principles may also be complemented based on specific activities.
Together, we create safer spaces
With respect and confidentiality
- We give everyone the space to be themselves. We avoid making assumptions or generalisations about other people or groups.
- We do not discriminate or treat anyone unequally based on factors such as gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, appearance, disability, health status, or any other personal characteristic.
- We respect each other’s boundaries, privacy, and right to self-identification.
- We show kindness and acceptance towards both ourselves and others.
By allowing space for growth and learning
- We remember that it is okay not to know or have all the answers. Making mistakes and asking questions is encouraged. We strive to approach mistakes with understanding.
- We give each other constructive feedback and are open to receiving feedback. When necessary, we are willing to apologise and adjust our actions.
With shared responsibility
- We ensure that everyone is heard in discussions and has the opportunity to participate.
- We make an effort to understand others and help others understand us.
- We strive to recognise and be aware of our own positions of power in relation to others.
- If possible, we address any situation that violates the principles of a safer space. Concerns can also be reported to the event organizers or Nyyti’s harassment contact persons.
Additional Guidelines for Participants in Nyyti’s Chats
- We keep in mind that it can be harder to identify tone and reactions in written messages.
- We share our own experiences to the extent that feels comfortable to us. However, we do not share identifying information, such as addresses or contact details. You may delete your own messages if you wish.
- Staff members are required to report to child protection services and/or the police if they become concerned about the well-being of a minor.
