Netiquette

Being a part of Nyyti’s chats is a lot nicer for everyone if we all follow the rules, or, Netiquette. So, take a look at the rules below and try your best to follow them. Following these guidelines is important to creating a comfortable and safe atmosphere where everyone can contribute.

  • Act Appropriately: Don’t use aggressive language or disrupt the conversation.
  • Be polite and constructive. Respect others and their opinions. Accept that everyone might not agree with you. Different perspectives spur and enrich discussion and are also a part of proper Netiquette.
  • Don’t offend, degrade, or judge others. Only say what you would be willing to say to someone in person.
  • Nyyti’s forum and chats do not tolerate hate-speech. Discriminatory language and commentary applying to race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or sexual orientation is not allowed. Racist or otherwise inappropriate usernames are also unwelcome.
  • Exclusively sharing experiences about the use of drugs is not appropriate in our chats, and the encouragement of others to partake in drug abuse is forbidden as well. Discussion about drugs is allowed, but it should be relevant to the topic of the chat and the speaker’s own personal concerns, and with the overall intent to discourage the use of drugs.
  • Don’t post or share inappropriate, offensive, lewd, or illegal information or materials in the forum or in the chat. Everyone takes judicial responsibility over the content of their own posts.
  • Respect other people’s privacy. Don’t refer to any person or party inside or outside of the chat by their real name or in a way that they could be identified.
  • Be mindful of your own privacy as well. Remember that when you post anything online it is likely to stay there for a long time.
  • Remember that certain legislation also applies online. This means that an employee hosting the chat is obligated to contact child welfare services or the police if there is cause to be concerned about the wellbeing of a minor. In an anonymous online service like ours, authorities will still be able to find the individual’s personal information if necessary.

Remember, inappropriate and disruptive behavior will always be addressed. Comments on our Forum that reject Netiquette will also be removed. During chats the host will deal with improper behavior by issuing a verbal warning or by muting the user. If required, inappropriate messages or the user that sent them will be removed from the chat entirely.
